January Spending

This month was not too bad...I went way over in food categories ( as per usual) but under in a lot of other ones. I was also over-spending in the good categories like OSAP payments and savings. So here's how I did for January...

Budgeted/Actual

Income: $1300/$1751.49 (extra payday)

Rent: $200/$200
Cell Phone: $68/$67.47
Food at work: $100/$91.81
Eating out/fast food: $50/$70.53
Grocery: $30/$107.87
Makeup/personal items: $50/$22.23
Misc: $80/$80.35
Clothes: $90/$0
Going out: $30/ $0

OSAP: $500/$550
Savings: $102/$150
Portugal: $0/$300

Total spent: $1640.26

This leaves me with just over $100 to get me through until next payday which is this Friday.

# of days I brought lunch to work: 6
# of no spend days: 4

So far I have not actually budgeted a certain amount for the Portugal fund. Its not even for sure that I will be going, but I am seriously considering it, therefore I am saving for it just in case I do decide to go for sure. And if I don't go..then oh well, I'll have lots of money saved!

I am also adjusting my budget to allow more money for groceries and less for spending at work during my meal break. So instead of allowing $100 for food at work and $30 for grocery, it's now going to be $70 for "food at work" and $60 for groceries.

How did I do with my goals?
1. Pay $500 towards OSAP.
check
2. Finally do my initial deposit to my ING savings account.
-not quite, but I've written the cheque..just have to mail it in.
3. Get my credit report. Never done this before, think its about time.
-nope
4. Go to the gym atleast 4 times
-only went twice
5. Work out at home atleast 4 times.
-only did that once :(

Well I didnt do so good with the goals for this month....kind of disappointed in myself because its not like they were that hard to do! Oh well...I've written some new ones for Feb and will be posting those soon.

Why did you only budget $50 for groceries? I think for a single person, $100 - $150 is reasonable a month.

:)

I eat $350/month so .. I'm not a good example.

I dont budget a lot for groceries cause I live with my parents. I dont really have to buy my own food or anything, the amount that is in my budget is like for the groceries I buy that are just for my lunches and stuff.

I simply cannot budget. I set goals for what I want to save but besides that I just let myself go. I cannot stand feeling restrained. Weird, I know but I cannot force myself to budget at all.
